The return of AJ Lee to WWE has been one of the most talked-about moments in wrestling over the last few months. After years away from the squared circle, seeing the former Divas Champion back in the mix has energized the fanbase. However, no one seems more excited about her comeback than her husband, CM Punk. In a new interview with Complex, “The Second City Saint” opened up about the experience of working alongside his wife again, describing it in glowing terms.
Punk did not hold back his affection and admiration for Lee during the interview. He admitted that he is AJ’s “biggest fan” and revealed that he played an active role behind the scenes in helping to put her return together. The opportunity to share the ring and the spotlight with her again was evidently a career highlight for the veteran.
“Time of my life,” Punk said when describing their time teaming together. The couple, who were a focal point of WWE programming over a decade ago, managed to recapture that magic effortlessly. For Punk, the personal significance of the moment seemingly outweighed even the professional accolades, as he got to witness his partner doing what she loves on the biggest stage once again.
Despite the success of their reunion, fans hoping for a long-term mixed tag team run might need to temper their expectations. When asked if the duo would team up again in the future, Punk was candid but noncommittal, casting some doubt on the longevity of the on-screen partnership.
“It feels like that might have been a one-off, but I don’t know. We’ll have to see,” Punk admitted. While he didn’t close the door completely, his comments suggest that there are no immediate plans for them to join forces again. Whether AJ Lee continues as a solo competitor or steps back from the ring, the brief reunion provided a nostalgic and heartwarming chapter for the power couple.
