With CM Punk set to headline WrestleMania 42 against Roman Reigns, the age-old debate about which night constitutes the “real” main event has resurfaced. Last year, Punk headlined Night One in a triple threat match, and he may find himself in a similar spot this year in Las Vegas. appearing on Up & Adams at Super Bowl Radio Row, Punk made it clear that he sees no difference between closing the show on Saturday or Sunday.
“This is often debated. I think WrestleMania is so big, and I think our roster is so deep, it’s hard to spotlight all the talented people who deserve those spots,” Punk explained. He rejected the idea that one night is superior to the other. “I don’t really differentiate between night one and night two.”
Punk drew a comparison to major music festivals to illustrate his point. “I look at it like a Lollapalooza… They’re multiple nights, you’ve got a headliner every single night, you know what I mean?” He also highlighted a personal benefit to the two-night structure. “Lucky for us, you get to wake up again and do it the next day. Last year, night one afforded me the ability to be completely stress free night two and I got to be a fan… I absolutely loved it.”
