Nikki Bella Explains Confusion Over “Coop” Chants During Raw Promo

The Bella Twins made their triumphant return to Monday Night Raw last week, declaring their intentions to capture the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. However, their promo in Philadelphia quickly went off the rails due to a misunderstanding with the live crowd. During the segment, Nikki Bella appeared to take a shot at the Philadelphia Eagles, believing the crowd was booing her. In reality, the fans were chanting “Coooop” in reference to Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean, who has been romantically linked to the Hall of Famer.

Nikki Bella: “I Always Put Myself In A Heel Mode Mindset”

Speaking on the Nikki & Brie Show, the sisters addressed the confusion. Nikki explained that her reaction was a result of her preparation for the character. “I’m in my heel run, and I love being in my heel run… I always put myself in a heel mode mindset,” Nikki said. “When I go out there, it make sense that I was getting booed.”

She clarified that she wasn’t actually trying to insult her favorite team. “I wasn’t dissing my Eagles. When you’re live, you’re just reacting to what is organically happening. What I said about the Eagles, I just assumed they knew I was a diehard Eagles fan, so they’re booing the fact that they’re not in the Super Bowl.”

Brie Bella: “You Added Fuel To The Fire”

Brie Bella noted that the moment was entirely unscripted, comparing it to their time on reality television. “It was such a Total Bellas moment when you were like, ‘No, dummy,’” Nikki laughed. Brie added, “I did say, ‘They’re saying Coop.’ None of it was scripted.”

While Nikki tried to acknowledge the crowd and move on, Brie felt the approach might have backfired. “You added fuel to the fire,” Brie remarked. Nikki defended herself, stating, “I didn’t mean it that way… You just don’t know what to say in the moment.” Regardless of the intent, the segment provided a chaotic, “Total Divas”-esque spark to their latest WWE run.
