MJF Calls Booker T A “Blueprint” Despite Criticism From Fans

AEW World Champion MJF has publicly come to the defense of WWE Hall of Famer Booker T. The NXT commentator recently became the subject of online discussion after being voted the “Worst Announcer” in the annual Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards. While fans and critics have been vocal about their distaste for Booker’s commentary style, MJF took to social media to offer a different perspective, praising the five-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion as an inspiration.

“@BookerT5x in a lot of ways is a blueprint to me,” MJF wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “A completely homegrown top guy with massive drawing power on Warner TV without having to have worked for McMahon. If you dislike what he does in the booth, that’s fine. But You guys talk crazy on legends. Show some respect, he’s earned it.”

MJF’s comments highlight the respect he holds for those who paved the way, even if they currently work for the opposition. The “Salt of the Earth” emphasized Booker’s unique path to stardom as a major draw on Warner television networks during the WCW era, drawing a parallel to his own current run in AEW.

This show of respect comes during a busy period for the AEW World Champion. MJF recently successfully defended his title against Brody King at Grand Slam Australia in Sydney. His schedule shows no signs of slowing down, as he is set to defend the gold again this Friday, February 20, at House of Glory’s No Turning Back event in New York against Zilla Fatu. Following that, he will turn his attention to “Hangman” Adam Page, who secured a title shot for AEW Revolution in Los Angeles next month.
