Britt Baker has not competed inside an AEW ring since November 2024. Her last televised appearance featured a victory over Penelope Ford. The former AEW Women’s World Champion recently addressed her extended absence during a brief red carpet interview. While attending an event hosted by Sports Illustrated on Friday, Baker was directly asked if her in-ring career had ended.
“I would not say I’m retired, no,” Baker said. She then offered a glimmer of hope to her supporters regarding her physical condition. “Yeah, maybe,” she added when asked if she felt good enough to get back into wrestling. This cautious optimism suggests that a comeback is certainly on the table for the prominent star.
During the one-minute interview, Baker also shed light on her life outside of the squared circle. The professional dentist revealed that she has stepped away from practicing dentistry on a full-time basis. The decision stems from alarming real-life interactions with viewers who took her on-screen persona too seriously. Her commitment to character work unfortunately resulted in frightening consequences at her workplace.
“It got a little carried away sometimes with some scary wrestling fans wanting to come kill me because I’m a bad guy,” she said. Playing a top heel for the promotion evidently blurred the lines for certain individuals. This prompted her to prioritize her personal safety and significantly reduce her hours at the dental clinic.
AEW President Tony Khan has faced continuous questions regarding Baker’s status with the company. During a recent media appearance, he provided a positive update on the inaugural female signee while keeping the timeline a mystery. “I would expect to see Britt back in AEW. I just don’t want to say when,” Khan stated. The promotion has clearly kept the door open for her eventual return to the active roster.
Despite her current hiatus, Baker remains highly aware of the ongoing speculation surrounding her future. She is clearly enjoying the attention and the anticipation building among the fanbase. “I just love that the fans are still talking about me. Keep the chatter up because I love it. Stay tuned,” she said. Her remarks indicate that she is actively monitoring the discourse and waiting for the right moment to strike.
The timing of a potential return aligns well with the upcoming AEW schedule as the company builds momentum for the spring. The promotion is gearing up for the Revolution pay-per-view event, which will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2026. The major show will be held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, providing a premium stage for any high-profile surprise appearances. Adding Baker back into the mix would certainly shake up the women’s division.
