Paul Heyman Discusses Long-Term Booking Strategy For WrestleMania

Paul Heyman is widely regarded as one of the greatest creative minds in the history of sports entertainment. The legendary manager and executive has spent decades crafting long-term storylines that captivate audiences around the globe. He recently shared his insights regarding the modern booking philosophy of the company.

The promotion is currently focused on WrestleMania 42, which will take place in Las Vegas in just under two months. However, the WWE Hall of Famer has commented on the importance of looking ahead to a year down the line. He believes that establishing future destinations is critical for current narrative success.

In a new interview on the Busted Open radio program, Heyman detailed his internal conversations with the creative team. He stressed the necessity of planning for the company’s major international stadium shows. “I have been, for the past eight months, jumping up and down with my hands flailing in the air saying, ‘What are we gonna do at Saudi Mania?’” Heyman stated.

He acknowledged that the immediate focus is naturally placed on the upcoming spectacle in Nevada. “Everybody’s very concerned with what we’re gonna do at Vegas Mania,” he noted. However, he argued that securing the creative direction for the subsequent event solves many immediate problems.

“I’ll tell you what – let’s book Saudi Mania, it’s gonna make booking Vegas Mania much easier,” he explained. The veteran strategist views the calendar year as a continuous chain of interconnected events. Each major show must serve as a foundational stepping stone for the next.

“Not that Vegas Mania is the launching pad to Saudi Mania, but Vegas Mania is the launching pad to Saudi Mania, which is the launching pad to Mania 2028, which is the launching pad to Mania 2029,” Heyman elaborated. This forward-thinking approach ensures that storylines do not abruptly end, but rather evolve into larger conflicts.

He emphasized that the scale of these events must constantly increase to maintain audience engagement. “It progresses, it’s bigger tomorrow than it is today, bigger two days from now than it is tomorrow,” he stated. The expectations from WWE fans demand continuous growth and grander spectacles.

“Next year’s WrestleMania, by definition, has to be bigger than this year’s WrestleMania, and WrestleMania two years from now has to top whatever we do next year,” Heyman declared. The pressure to outdo previous iterations requires a solid foundational roadmap. Knowing the ultimate destination allows the writers to effectively chart the course.

“So if we just have a concept of what we’re doing next year, oh my god, I can tell you what to do this year because it leads to next year,” he ended. This visionary philosophy has kept Heyman relevant in an ever-changing industry landscape.

Heyman is currently putting this strategy into practice as he guides Roman Reigns on the road to Las Vegas. Reigns successfully won the 2026 Royal Rumble match to secure his main event spot at Allegiant Stadium. The Original Tribal Chief is currently slated to challenge CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42, assuming Punk retains his title against Finn Balor at the Elimination Chamber in Chicago.
