Swerve Strickland has taken to social media following his show-closing angle on AEW Dynamite. The former World Champion wanted to clarify his mindset after a shocking attack. The situation has escalated the tension on the active roster. Strickland seems to have absolutely zero remorse for the physical damage he inflicted on his rival.
On Sunday, Strickland wrote, “This was the moment I knew what I had to do.” He posted an image of himself with his back turned to Kenny Omega. This specific photo was taken during their tense face-to-face segment two weeks ago. That verbal confrontation ultimately led to a physical brawl between the two highly competitive athletes.
Last Wednesday, Strickland was successful in defeating Omega in their scheduled television match. He decided to take things much further after the match officially ended. The victor continued to attack Omega long after the final bell rang. Strickland escalated matters further by giving Omega a dangerous vertebreaker directly through the announcer’s table.
He loudly yelled, “I needed this,” as the television show went off the air. The broadcast team emphasized the severity of the situation to the viewing audience. A follow-up segment on Collision revealed the consequences of this violent outburst. It was announced that AEW officials had fined Strickland a staggering $100,000 for his actions.
Strickland also took time to respond to this financial penalty on his social media accounts. He appears seemingly indifferent to the promotion’s punishment at this stage. The former AEW World Champion and Omega first crossed paths during a high-stakes tournament. This bracket was designed to establish the next contender for MJF’s World Championship.
After Strickland lost his tournament match to Andrade El Idolo, the landscape shifted. Andrade followed that victory up with a controversial win over Omega. This outcome happened entirely thanks to a distraction from Strickland at ringside. Strickland intentionally grabbed a screwdriver away from Andrade during the final moments of the bout.
As Strickland inadvertently distracted the assigned referee, Andrade took advantage. He low blowed Omega and scored the win with his finishing maneuver. This sequence of events planted the seeds for the current hostility between the two men. Strickland has fully embraced his role as a dangerous heel on the programming.
Professional wrestling fans who follow the broader landscape have praised this ongoing narrative. All Elite Wrestling is currently building the card for its upcoming spring pay-per-view events. The roster is expected to bring heightened intensity to the television broadcasts. The rivalry between Strickland and Omega will likely demand a major stipulation match soon.
