The road to WrestleMania 42 continues to heat up for WWE fans around the world. The main event picture for the prestigious World Heavyweight Championship is officially set for the two-night stadium event. The reigning champion, CM Punk, is ready to get much more personal with his upcoming challenger, Roman Reigns.
Punk and Reigns are scheduled to headline the show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The championship match was officially made after a fiery promotional segment between the two men on television. The confrontation occurred shortly after Reigns secured his victory at the 2026 Royal Rumble premium live event.
Reigns outlasted twenty-nine other competitors to earn the right to challenge for a world title. He made his intentions very clear by targeting the outspoken babyface champion. The tension between the two top stars has only escalated since that initial face-to-face encounter.
Speaking with Metro for a new interview, Punk spoke candidly about the deeply personal nature of their ongoing feud. He addressed the verbal jabs they have traded and the necessity of having thick skin in the professional wrestling industry. He also emphasized that the rivalry extends far beyond the physical championship belt they will fight over.
“At this stage, if you have thin skin, I don’t think you would have made it to this stage,” Punk stated during the interview. He explained his mindset when it comes to delivering cutting remarks on the microphone. “You gotta realize that to entertain people, you gotta say and do things that would sometimes just entertain yourself.”
He then highlighted the importance of the prize while acknowledging the genuine bad blood that exists. “[The championship is] important to me and it’s important to him, but there’s so much more when it’s personal,” he noted. Punk did not hold back his true feelings regarding his opponent’s commitment to the company.
“This is very personal. I’m sure it’s probably going to get more wildly personal whenever he decides to show up to work,” Punk ended. The final sentence served as a direct shot at the lighter television schedule that Reigns has maintained over the last few years.
The champion clearly intends to use every available opportunity to get inside the head of his challenger. Reigns will undoubtedly look to respond to these comments the next time he appears on a WWE broadcast. The verbal warfare will only intensify as the April dates rapidly approach.
Before Punk can completely focus his attention on Las Vegas, he has a major obstacle waiting for him in his hometown. He must successfully defend the World Heavyweight Championship at the upcoming Elimination Chamber premium live event. The broadcast is scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026, streaming live from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
He will step into the ring to face Finn Balor of The Judgment Day in a singles contest. The Chicago card will also feature crucial Elimination Chamber matches that will dictate the rest of the WrestleMania 42 lineup. The Men’s Elimination Chamber match will determine the number one contender for Drew McIntyre’s Undisputed WWE Championship, while the Women’s Elimination Chamber match will establish the challenger for Jade Cargill’s WWE Women’s Championship.
