Chelsea Green Clarifies Who Set Her Up With Husband Matt Cardona

Chelsea Green is currently married to WWE star Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder during his initial run. Cardona works with her on the SmackDown brand after making his return to WWE television this past January. The couple has become a prominent fixture in the wrestling community.

He and Green have been together for nine years, building a strong relationship both in and out of the ring. In a recent appearance on Brandi Rhodes’ YouTube show, ‘A Shot of Brandi’, Green took the opportunity to clear up some lingering rumors. She wanted to set the record straight about who actually set her up with her husband.

Green revealed that it was Brandi who formally introduced the couple to each other years ago. Although Cody Rhodes seemingly gets all the credit from WWE fans for introducing the two stars, Green says that is simply not the case. She noted that Cody did not even know her at the time of the introduction.

“Let me go back. Cody did not set us up. Brandi set us up,” Green clarified during the broadcast. Brandi Rhodes quickly backed up her claim, taking full responsibility for the successful matchmaking attempt.

“It was a thousand percent me. Yes. He [Cody] was cheering it on,” Brandi stated. Green then elaborated on Cody’s lack of involvement in the initial stages of their romance.

“But he didn’t even know me at the time. No, no. You knew me from being the locker room and training together. Yeah. And it was that simple. It literally was like this,” Green explained to the viewers. The genuine friendship between the two women facilitated the connection.

Brandi went on to detail the exact process of how she showed photos of one to the other. They both complimented each other’s looks immediately. This mutual attraction eventually led to them getting together and forming a lasting bond.

The couple’s journey has taken them through various promotions, including a highly successful stint on the independent circuit, before finally reuniting in WWE. Their ability to support each other’s careers has been a major factor in their sustained success. The wrestling business can be incredibly demanding on personal relationships due to the rigorous travel schedule, but they have managed to thrive.

Green is currently recovering from a painful ankle injury that she suffered earlier this month. Despite the setback, she recently noted that she is healing much faster than initially expected. Meanwhile, the SmackDown roster is preparing for the upcoming Elimination Chamber premium live event, which takes place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the United Center in Chicago.
