The intense promo exchange between CM Punk and Roman Reigns on WWE RAW really affected Drew McIntyre. Not only did the promo build up their highly anticipated WrestleMania 42 match, but it gave McIntyre a brand new mission. This mission was to ensure that WWE SmackDown rivals RAW in terms of overall quality.
He previously issued a stern warning to the entire roster on the Busted Open Radio podcast regarding their effort levels. Now, the Undisputed WWE Champion is back with another aggressive warning for his colleagues. During a recent interview on the “No-Contest Wrestling” podcast, McIntyre explained his mindset.
“I felt like I had to. I’m not a bad guy, I’m not a good guy, I say exactly how I feel and what’s on my mind,” McIntyre stated. He noted that the RAW segment genuinely irritated him. “And that’s what was on my mind that day based on what I saw Monday. I don’t care what they said about me. If anything, they actually kind of defended me.”
He broke down the specific insults traded between the two heavyweights. “Punk would run his mouth about me, Roman would say, ‘He’s four times bigger, he had you crying over a plastic bracelet.’ Roman would say, ‘I beat Drew for three years in a row,’ Punk would say, ‘Yeah, you and your entire family.’”
McIntyre clarified that the personal attacks were not the source of his anger. “So it’s not like they were going after me too bad. But making SmackDown and the roster feel less-than is what bothered me,” he explained. He then defended the prestige of his own championship belt.
“That’s why I gave my Braveheart speech, just telling the truth. Like, listen, this (the Undisputed WWE Championship) is the number one title in the world, it’s got the lineage, including those two guys have held it, both of them had historic reigns. Argue all you want, this is the number one title in wrestling,” McIntyre declared.
He then delivered an ultimatum to the blue brand locker room. “For the SmackDown roster, if they didn’t watch that and get a light lit under their a** with gasoline thrown on it and every single time they’re out there – be it a promo, be it a match – they’re not giving 150%, making SmackDown unmissable, then I’m gonna kick you off the show.”
The champion promised to take matters into his own hands if necessary. “I stay quiet unless you ask for advice, I don’t impose my advice. But if I see you bringing the show down, I’ll personally go and shout at you until management get his a** off the show, or her a** off the show.”
“If you’re not contributing, we’ve got a three-hour show. We’re competing against Raw as far as I’m concerned. Roman and Punk, all they did was fire me up, and they should have fired everyone else up too,” he ended.
McIntyre will closely monitor the upcoming Elimination Chamber premium live event. The broadcast takes place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the United Center in Chicago. The Men’s Elimination Chamber match will officially determine who challenges him for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42.
