The WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship was officially on the line tonight in Chicago. Becky Lynch defended her championship against AJ Lee at the Elimination Chamber premium live event.
The grudge match took place in front of a loud crowd at the United Center. The championship bout got off to a notably slow start as both women sized each other up.
They each went for several quick pin attempts trying to catch their opponent off guard. Lynch eventually took control of the pace and beat her challenger down to the mat.
The defending champion confidently played to the crowd while enjoying her early advantage. Lee refused to stay down for long and bravely fought back with a series of stiff right hands.
However, Lynch quickly caught her off and halted her momentum with several sharp uppercuts. The challenger regained her footing and successfully executed a running bulldog.
Lee then followed up the sequence with a spinning tornado DDT to disorient the champion. She quickly capitalized on the opening by delivering a running shining wizard strike.
The momentum of the match completely shifted when a chaotic collision occurred inside the squared circle. Lynch forcefully splashed Lee directly into the referee, knocking the official completely out of the match.
With the referee incapacitated on the mat, Lee managed to trap Lynch in her signature Black Widow submission hold. Lynch clearly tapped out to the painful maneuver, but the referee was entirely unable to call for the bell.
Frustration began to set in as the two women took their fight to the outside of the ring. They brawled aggressively around the ringside area, using the environment to inflict damage.
During the chaos, Lynch managed to execute a DDT directly onto a steel chair. The champion rolled her broken challenger back into the ring and delivered her signature Manhandle Slam.
Despite the damage, Lee somehow kicked out of the resulting pinfall attempt at the count of two. Lee then dug deep and managed to put Lynch back into the Black Widow submission hold.
The champion had nowhere to go and officially submitted, crowning a brand new titleholder. AJ Lee’s victory drastically alters the landscape of the women’s division heading into the spring season.
She is now expected to defend her newly won WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 42. The two-night stadium event takes place on April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The WWE fans are eager to see who will step up to challenge the popular babyface on the grandest stage of them all. Meanwhile, the rest of the women’s locker room is closely watching the ongoing Elimination Chamber matches.
Rhea Ripley recently secured her spot at WrestleMania 42 by winning the Women’s Elimination Chamber match earlier in the broadcast. She defeated Tiffany Stratton, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Kiana James, and Raquel Rodriguez inside the steel structure.
Ripley is now officially expected to challenge Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Championship in Nevada. The road to Las Vegas continues to feature unpredictable twists for the entire active roster.
