WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash is addressing the heated backlash he received following comments made about RAW star Je’Von Evans. After a comparison to the “Mr. Bojangles” character sparked widespread criticism and accusations of racism, Nash used his Kliq This podcast to confront the negative feedback and explain his perspective on the situation.
Nash expressed specific frustration with followers who suggested they were disappointed in him based on their perception of his character. He questioned the framing of these comments, particularly the idea that he was previously viewed as one of the “good ones” among white people, a sentiment he found offensive.
“I want to ask — because this is all from, at least from their photographs, Black people who follow me or have something to do with me. But this is on my Twitter, and I saw it more than two dozen times: ‘I thought we thought you were one of the good ones.’ Good ones what, motherf**ker? Good ones what? You were one of the few good Caucasians — is that what that means? Is that what that means? I would interpret it that way. And I’m the one that’s racist?”
Defending his original comments, Nash insisted that his words were intended as an analogy rather than a racial slight. He dismissed the idea that there was any underlying “undertone” to his comparison and criticized fans for being brave enough to target him online while suggesting they wouldn’t do so in person.
“When I get up in the morning and I look in the mirror, I say, ‘You know what I want to be today? I want to be a better human being.’ Oh no, let me sidestep that. I want to be a better Caucasian human being — because that’s exactly how I see myself. It was absolutely not in any way said with f**king malice or with any f**king racial f**king undertone. It was just said more in an analogy f**king sense. And then you’re like, ‘Man, just shut up, man. Leave it. Just shut the f**k up. Just leave.’ Motherf**ker, you wouldn’t tell me to shut the f**k up to my face.”
The Hall of Famer concluded by making it clear that he does not value his follower count over his personal peace. He warned that those who continue to target him on social media should expect to be blocked, as he has little patience for the ongoing criticism.
“And I guess these people, because they follow you, they think you give a f**k about how many people follow you — that they don’t think they’ll get blocked.”
The controversy surrounding Nash comes as Je’Von Evans continues to rise in popularity on the RAW brand following a stellar showing in the Elimination Chamber qualifying matches. Evans, only 21 years old, has been praised by many veterans for his incredible athleticism and “generational talent” potential. Nash had previously compared Evans’ hang-time to NFL legend Randy Moss before the “Bojangles” comment overshadowed his praise.
