Big E was unfortunately forced into retirement due to a severe career-ending injury in 2022. However, more personal heartache was to come during a special celebration for his former stablemates. The New Day’s Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston did the unthinkable and turned their back on their former partner during the team’s tenth anniversary.
Currently, Big E appears on premium live event kick-off shows to share his thoughts on the latest developments. Given his incredible popularity with the audience, it is no surprise that WWE fans want to see him much more frequently. But for now, the former world champion is sticking with what he has already established.
Speaking on The Takedown on SI, Big E explained why he has turned down several approaches for a much bigger role. He is genuinely enjoying his life off of the metaphorical hamster wheel of the professional wrestling industry. He values his health and his personal time above the rigors of the road.
“I think the idea of being on the road every single week for an extended period of time is something that I’m not really open to doing right now,” Big E stated candidly.
He acknowledged the immense support from the public who want to see him in a different capacity, such as a commentator. Many people within the organization have also campaigned for him to take on more responsibilities.
“And God bless the amount of people who’ve come to me and or even tweeted at WWE, ‘Get him on commentary. He deserves to be on commentary.’ Look, I’ve been approached multiple times by people within the company, people who’ve gone to bat for me,” he added.
The veteran explained that once he was able to step away from the grueling travel schedule, he gained a new perspective on life. He found joy in the simple things that were previously impossible due to his professional commitments.
“But once you’re able to get off that hamster wheel and you realise that man, I have my weekends back again,” he explained.
His personal life has also flourished during his time away from the active roster. He is currently focused on his relationship and the happiness he has found outside of the squared circle.
“Or when I first started dating Kristen, my fiancée, I was able to come out for a chunk of 10 days for two weeks and man, life is good out here. Life is good off the grind,” Big E finished.
While Big E enjoys his well-deserved time off the road, his colleagues are currently grinding toward the two-night stadium show in Las Vegas. WrestleMania 42 is set to emanate from Allegiant Stadium this April. The event will feature high-stakes matches like AJ Lee defending the Women’s Intercontinental Championship and Randy Orton challenging for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The company is currently pulling out all the stops to ensure a massive weekend for everyone in attendance.
