Gunther Addresses Tapping Out To Jey Uso

Over the last year, the Ring General has officially retired three top names in the entire company. He earned the intimidating moniker of ‘Career Killer’ in the process of his dominant run. His growing list of victims includes former World Heavyweight Champion Goldberg, 17-time World Champion John Cena, and 2-time WWE Champion AJ Styles.

While Gunther added new milestones to his career, he also suffered a couple of significant setbacks along the way. Most notably, he lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41 in Los Angeles. He was forced to tap out in the middle of the ring during the high-profile match.

To this day, WWE fans often remind him of that specific incident either during his in-ring promos or matches. The chant has become a regular occurrence whenever he steps out onto the stage. During a recent appearance on Cody Rhodes’ What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast, Gunther was asked about that moment.

Maintaining his established heelish persona, the Austrian athlete admitted that he did not see the loss as a major issue. He values the final result of a match more than his own personal pride in the moment.

“With Jey, at that moment, that’s the thing, I can swallow my pride. When it’s over, it’s over, I have no issue with that,” Gunther explained directly to Rhodes.

He seemed completely unbothered by the perception of the audience regarding his character’s strength. He is focused on the long-term reality of his dominance rather than a single blemish on his record.

“If the audience views that as weakness, let them be. It’s alright,” he added.

The 38-year-old superstar eventually managed to win back his title from Uso on an episode of WWE Raw this past June. He is now looking forward to making a massive impact at the next Showcase of the Immortals. WrestleMania 42 is scheduled for April 18 and 19 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Despite being a top heel in WWE, Gunther remains a major draw for any premium live event. However, management is presently undecided about exactly how to feature him in the Nevada desert. According to WrestleVotes Radio, the company has lined out three potential opponents for him: Oba Femi, Rey Mysterio, and the legendary Brock Lesnar. On the latest edition of Raw, he successfully defeated Dragon Lee by making him tap out to his signature sleeper hold, further cementing his reputation as a submission specialist.
