Trick Williams Discusses Management Style Differences

Trick Williams firmly believes that NXT’s Shawn Michaels and the main roster’s Triple H have two very different management styles. Following a highly successful career in the developmental system, Williams recently made the jump to the main roster earlier this year. He has quickly become one of the most popular names on the weekly programming.

Shortly after his transition to the big leagues, Williams became a cornerstone of the broadcast. Recently, while speaking on the My Mom’s Basement podcast, he opened up about the different approaches used by the two legends. Having worked closely under both, he has a unique perspective on their leadership methods.

“I think both are great in their own right. Shawn Michaels has to babysit a little bit more because NXT is younger talent,” Williams stated during the interview. He noted that the environment in Orlando requires a more hands-on approach to guide the athletes.

He explained that many of the performers in the developmental system are still trying to figure out their way in the industry. They often need more direct instruction to develop their characters and in-ring skills. Williams appreciated the level of attention given to the talent during their formative years.

“So he has to be hands-on and probably, like I said, babysit way more,” Williams added. He contrasted this with the experience of working on the Monday and Friday night broadcasts where the expectations are significantly higher for everyone involved.

Whereas Triple H takes a more observational approach to the performers on the roster. He prefers to sit back and see who an individual truly is before deciding how to present them to the global audience. He focuses more on the polishing and the final presentation of the stars.

“So he’s more doing the polishing and the brushing up. At this point, SmackDown and Raw, you’re supposed to be a pro; this is the big leagues,” Williams shared. He noted that management expects a certain level of professionalism once you reach the top tier.

He feels that the current creative direction is focused on making performers stars at the next level. Triple H is not interested in micromanaging every aspect of a person’s character if they have already proven themselves. This freedom allows the athletes to explore their own creative boundaries on television.

Williams was recently a prominent part of the 2026 Men’s Elimination Chamber match in Chicago. He is also reportedly on his way toward a significant babyface turn as the crowd support continues to grow. He is currently expected to play a major role in the upcoming WrestleMania 42 event in Las Vegas, Nevada, as management continues to push him toward the main event scene in the spring.
