CM Punk Played A Big Factor In Danhausen’s WWE Debut

The World Heavyweight Champion officially spearheaded the idea of bringing Danhausen to the Stamford-based promotion. Industry reports from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter indicate that CM Punk was the primary driving force behind the 35-year-old’s arrival in the company. Danhausen previously backed Punk during their time in AEW, even when others had soured on the “Best in the World.”

The eccentric star finally made his debut at the Elimination Chamber 2026 premium live event in his hometown of Chicago. The debut saw Danhausen emerge from a mysterious wooden crate that had been teased for weeks on television. While the initial reveal was met with mixed-to-negative reactions from the live crowd, the writers worked quickly to pivot.

Some spectators in the arena even compared the reveal to the infamous 1990 Gobbledy Gooker debut. Despite the rocky start, management is banking on the “Very Nice, Very Evil” star’s proven ability to move units at the merchandise stand. Leadership remains focused on the financial potential of the unique character.

Following the divisive reaction at the United Center, the creative team streamlined the character for his Monday Night Raw debut in Indianapolis on March 2. They stripped away the over-the-top dancers and loud pyro to focus on his personality. The segment featured a backstage skit with Raw General Manager Adam Pearce and members of The Judgment Day.

The comedy resonated much better with the television audience than the initial arena reveal. The segment peaked when Danhausen placed his signature “curse” on Dominik Mysterio. In a classic moment for the character, the curse seemingly bore fruit immediately when Mysterio lost his Intercontinental Championship to Penta later that same evening.

This pivot toward low-key comedic interactions has reportedly saved the character in the eyes of many critics. Triple H even addressed the debut during a recent press conference, joking about a “bucket of teeth” given to Michael Cole. He teased a fun time ahead for the eccentric wrestler as the spring season continues.

Despite the initial backstage divide over his signing, the financial returns have already been very promising. According to PWInsider Elite, officials are pleasantly surprised by the early merchandise figures. Danhausen himself confirmed on social media that his debut “Cursed!” t-shirt had quickly become the top seller on WWE Shop.

He urged the WWE fans to give him all of their “human monies” in a post that went viral across several platforms. As the road to WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas intensifies, the character is expected to continue his psychological warfare against the roster. The two-night stadium show on April 18 and 19 will provide the perfect platform for more “evil” antics at Allegiant Stadium.
