Is Chelsea Green Writing Her Own Promos?

Chelsea Green has often been praised by peers for her ability to make the most of her limited time on television. Whether she is getting ten minutes or ten seconds, the superstar always finds a way to stay relevant. She has been regularly featured since her return in 2023, always finding a way to be involved weekly on the broadcast.

Speaking on The Ghost of Hollywood podcast, Green commented on her recent rise and the autonomy she has earned from the staff. She noted that the management has gained a significant amount of respect for her character work. This has led to her having more say in her overall television presentation.

“They just kept giving me reassurance that what I was doing was right, so every week I pushed the boundary and the envelope,” Green stated. She explained that the writers are now incredible with her when it comes to collaborative efforts. They usually provide her with a general vibe rather than a strict script.

“Now, we’re at a point where the writers are so incredible with me. They basically just tell me what vibe they want from me and then, I write my own promos,” Green revealed. She enjoys coming up with her own character moments and unique interactions for the WWE fans to enjoy each week.

Green’s journey to becoming a staple of the women’s division was not always a straight line. She revealed that during her return at the 2023 Royal Rumble, she felt somewhat overlooked by the fans. The spotlight that night shifted toward the high-profile return of Nia Jax to the squared circle.

However, she credits that specific environment for allowing her to experiment with her persona. She eventually found the “Karen” character that resonated so strongly with the television audience. She realized that she could turn a short appearance into a long-term talking point for the viewers.

“All that came about because they were so busy with the Royal Rumble, everyone cared more about Nia Jax’s return, and I kind of got pushed to the side,” Green explained. She noted that being overlooked ended up being for her complete benefit. She leaned into the comedy of a record-breaking five-second elimination that night.

In recent weeks, Green has pivoted her character once again into the role of “Our President.” She has been making administrative decisions and forming a special “cabinet” while recovering from a legitimate ankle injury. She suffered the injury during a match on the February 6 episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

While her in-ring status remains week-to-week, she has utilized a wheelchair and a walking boot on television to maintain her presence. She recently appointed Randy Orton to her cabinet in a surprising move during the March 6 episode of the blue brand. Green remains a vital part of the roster as they head toward WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, this April.
