The digital squared circle has become a battlefield for two of the biggest stars in the industry. Rhea Ripley earned a massive opportunity to face Jade Cargill for the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 42 after winning the Elimination Chamber match on February 28. However, the celebration was short-lived as the rivalry quickly spilled over into a volatile social media confrontation.
In a series of posts exchanged on X, the two women took sharp jabs at each other that appeared to cross professional lines. Things got incredibly personal when Cargill accused Ripley of hanging around the creative team for extended periods to secure her main event opportunities. She implied that Ripley’s success over the past six years was more about politicking than physical performance.
The accusation clearly hurt Ripley, who later posted a story on Instagram asking Cargill to learn how to “work” and not defame a colleague’s character by breaking the fourth wall. Other roster members, including Chelsea Green, Piper Niven, and Nia Jax, joined the conversation to support Ripley. The incident has led to an intense debate among the WWE fans regarding whether the war is a planned work or real-life tension.
WWE star Natalya, who shares a locker room with Ripley on Monday Night Raw, recently shared her unique perspective on the situation. During an interview on Busted Open Radio, the veteran explained that she believes the industry needs strong antagonists like Cargill. She admitted that while lines were likely crossed, the friction is making the product more interesting to the general public.
“Jade Cargill loves to be a heel and I do think the industry — I think we need that, whether it hurts people’s feelings or not,” Natalya stated during the broadcast. She noted that the environment backstage can be very hectic, making it difficult for everyone to maintain perfect relationships during the busiest season of the year.
Natalya alluded to the famous feud between Tiffany Stratton and Charlotte Flair that previously blurred the lines between fiction and reality. She revealed that seeing personal animosity unfold on the “Unreal” docuseries made her much more invested in watching their eventual matches. She believes that a legitimate dislike between competitors can actually benefit the business in the long run.
“I’m in that locker room. I share a locker room with Rhea. When we get to the TV, it gets very busy,” Natalya shared. “It makes me wonder, yeah, it feels reminiscent of Tiffany versus Charlotte. It did make me wanna watch their match.”
In any case, the situation is being viewed as a major win for the promotion. The online drama has generated a significant amount of buzz and increased interest in the championship match. Natalya herself admitted that the tension has motivated her to make sure she has a front-row seat for the confrontation.
“Now, I am racing to buy a ticket to watch what’s gonna happen between Jade and Rhea,” she explained. “I don’t think we all have to get along. We do need to respect each other. That is a big thing. But listen, damn, let’s get the Unreal cameras out.”
As the women prepare for their clash in the Nevada desert, the rest of the roster is also finalizing their paths to the stadium. WrestleMania 42 is scheduled for April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The two-night spectacle will also feature Roman Reigns challenging CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship and AJ Lee defending her newly won Women’s Intercontinental Championship. The WWE fans will be watching closely as Ripley appears on the March 6 episode of Friday Night SmackDown in Portland, Oregon, to officially confront Cargill for the first time since their digital war began.
