Jon Moxley Explains The Death Riders Faction

The current Continental Champion is officially opening up about the philosophy behind his most recent project. Jon Moxley has explained the motivation for forming the Death Riders faction in All Elite Wrestling. The group currently consists of Moxley, Marina Shafir, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, PAC, and Daniel Garcia, representing a hard-hitting “pitbull” mentality.

Speaking on AEW Close Up, Moxley noted that he is more proud of building this faction than almost anything else in his storied career. He explained that the group was created to establish a specific culture and attitude that he felt was missing from the locker room. For Moxley, the Death Riders represent a return to the fundamentals of professional wrestling.

“I don’t think there’s anything I’ve ever done that I’m more proud of in my career than when we built the Death Riders,” Moxley shared. “This culture, this attitude, this does not represent me. I do not represent it… I just decided I would build a culture of my own. And it started with just me. And look at who’s next to me.”

He expressed deep trust in his teammates, specifically mentioning Claudio Castagnoli as his “right-hand man” for several years. He also referred to Wheeler Yuta as an “adopted child” and PAC as a “professional through and through.” The group aims to be the most disciplined and physical unit in the entire industry.

Moxley also took a moment to specifically praise Marina Shafir, the group’s sole female member. He referred to her as his “lieutenant” and the “heart and soul” of the operation. He touted her immense work ethic, noting that she lives the life of a professional athlete every single day, often seen training around the building hours before a show.

“If she has a big match one night and I wake up in the morning… I look out the window and she’s down at the pool doing exercises… looking like a pitbull,” he added. The Death Riders are officially set for a major role at the upcoming Revolution pay-per-view this Sunday in Los Angeles. The group is banking on their unified front to redefine the championship landscape of the company as the spring season continues.
