WWE Superstar Suffers Bloody Injury During Main Event Taping

Matt Cardona suffered a significant head injury during a tag team match taped for WWE Main Event before the March 13 episode of SmackDown in Phoenix, Arizona. The wound required multiple staples to close, and Cardona did not appear on SmackDown following the incident.

Cardona documented the injury on X afterward, posting photos of the deep gash on top of his head along with visible staples. His caption leaned into the moment: “Tonight on #WWEMainEvent, I tasted my own blood for the first time in a long time…and I felt ALIVE!”

Cardona’s WWE Status With WrestleMania Five Weeks Away

Cardona returned to WWE as a surprise entrant in the “Last Time Is Now” tournament in late 2025, signing with the SmackDown roster on the January 2, 2026 episode. Since his return, results have been mixed — he defeated Kit Wilson in his comeback match but has since lost to Trick Williams in a number-one contender qualifier, was eliminated early from the Royal Rumble by Oba Femi, and dropped a United States Championship Open Challenge match to Carmelo Hayes on the February 27 SmackDown. He has also been involved in a minor feud with Kit Wilson.

With WrestleMania 42 five weeks away, Cardona is not currently on the card. There is no word yet on whether the head injury will affect his availability for upcoming tapings or live events.
