Santos Escobar isn’t going quietly. Just days after competing at AAA Rey de Reyes with an injury that worsened during the match, Escobar appeared in a video with AAA to officially announce his hiatus — and to deliver a pointed message to the man he holds responsible.
“The medical reports say I’ll be out for months. This is what I do to provide for my family, my legacy, and you messed with it,” Escobar said, directing his words at Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., who interfered in the Rey de Reyes final to cost Escobar the match. The tone quickly shifted from injury update to promise: “When I come back — because you better believe I’m coming back — I’m not just coming back for that title. This time, I’m coming back for what you value most, what you say is the most beautiful thing in Mexican Lucha Libre. Be careful what you wish for.”
Fightful Select previously confirmed that Escobar sustained the torn tricep during an NXT house show match against Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. over Royal Rumble weekend. He competed at AAA Rey de Reyes despite the injury, aggravating it in the process. Surgery is scheduled for Thursday, March 19. The challenge for Wagner Jr.’s mask adds a high-stakes layer to a feud that will now be put on hold for the foreseeable future.
