WWE SmackDown Results (3/27/26): Cody Returns, Zayn Wins US Title

WWE SmackDown results are in!

WWE SmackDown on March 27 from PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh delivered one of the most eventful shows of the WrestleMania 42 season. Sami Zayn captured the United States Championship from Carmelo Hayes in a shocking moment, Cody Rhodes made his long-awaited return from injury to confront Randy Orton, and Orton capped the night by dropping Jelly Roll with an RKO before escaping through the crowd.

The show opened with Orton cutting a promo about shutting out the voices in his head for years but now embracing them again — telling the crowd he can no longer be held responsible for what happens next. Just as he was about to reveal the voice that has his ear, Matt Cardona interrupted and cracked him with a microphone. Orton would get his revenge later, defeating Cardona in the night’s main event.

Sami Zayn’s Stunning United States Championship Win Sets Up WrestleMania Match With Trick Williams

The most unexpected moment of the night came when Sami Zayn turned a backstage conversation with Nick Aldis into a championship opportunity in real time. After being told there was no WrestleMania spot for him, Zayn walked away — then turned back and laid out Trick Williams before challenging for Hayes’ United States Championship. Zayn defeated Hayes to become the new champion and immediately had his WrestleMania match confirmed against Williams.

The women’s division also had a major moment when The Bella Twins defeated Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair with an assist from tag champions Nia Jax and Lash Legend, who attacked after the match — only for Bayley and Lyra Valkyria to make the save ahead of their title match on Raw. Giulia retained the Women’s United States Championship against Tiffany Stratton in a non-title showdown that was originally advertised as a title match. Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre had another intense confrontation, with Nick Aldis stepping in to book their WrestleMania match as an Unsanctioned bout with no DQ and no countout.
