Liv Morgan’s Women’s World Championship match against Stephanie Vaquer at WrestleMania 42 is in genuine jeopardy. Bryan Alvarez addressed Morgan’s concussion protocol status on Wrestling Observer Live on April 7, and his assessment of the situation was far less optimistic than Morgan’s defiant social media posts have suggested.
“They were both put in concussion protocol, but anyway, the point is — it’s ‘wait and see.’ Like, I was pretty much told if WrestleMania 42 was this weekend, that match probably ain’t happening,” Alvarez said. He acknowledged that the two-week window provides some hope while underscoring just how serious the incident was. “Two weeks from now, I guess we’ll see if it happens. But it was absolutely brutal.”
WWE Now in a Holding Pattern Waiting for Medical Updates on Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez
The collision occurred on the April 6 Raw when Vaquer attacked Morgan from behind backstage, sending Morgan crashing into Roxanne Perez. The two clonked heads hard as they fell to the floor, with both immediately placed in concussion protocol. Morgan subsequently posted a defiant response on social media, vowing that Vaquer would have to kill her to keep her down — but the behind-the-scenes picture painted by Alvarez is considerably more uncertain than that public bravado suggests.
Concussion protocol clearance timelines are unpredictable and non-negotiable in WWE, meaning the company is now entirely at the mercy of the medical process with less than two weeks until WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on April 18 and 19. Whether WWE has a contingency plan in place for the Women’s World Championship match if Morgan cannot be cleared in time remains unknown, but Alvarez’s assessment makes clear this is no longer a situation the company can take for granted.
