Lance Archer’s time in AEW could be coming to an end. Dave Meltzer reported in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Archer’s contract with the promotion expires in July 2026, raising questions about his future with the company he has called home since 2020. “Lance Archer’s contract expires in July,” Meltzer wrote simply, leaving the situation open-ended.
Archer most recently has been working as part of the Don Callis Family, filling an enforcer-type role alongside Konosuke Takeshita and others in the faction. His presence has provided physical credibility to the group’s storylines, though he has not been among the most prominently featured names on the roster during this stretch of his AEW tenure.
Before arriving in AEW, Archer built much of his reputation in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he captured the IWGP United States Championship and the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships. His tag team partnership with Davey Boy Smith Jr. as the Killer Elite Squad remains one of the most decorated chapters of his career and gave him a legitimate claim as one of the most respected big men working the international circuit during that period.
Lance Archer’s Career Has Spanned TNA, WWE, NJPW, and AEW Over More Than Two Decades
Prior to NJPW, Archer spent several years in TNA from 2004 to 2009, where he teamed with Jimmy Rave as part of The Rock ‘n’ Rave Infection. He briefly signed with WWE from 2009 to 2010 under the name Vance Archer before departing and building his legacy internationally. His career arc across multiple major promotions over more than two decades gives him a track record that could generate genuine interest if he were to become available on the open market this summer.
With July approaching and no indication yet of whether AEW is pursuing a renewal, the next few months will be telling. A performer of Archer’s size, championship history, and experience working across different wrestling cultures is the kind of name that rarely sits unsigned for long once word gets out about his availability. Whether the Don Callis Family chapter represents his final run in AEW or a stepping stone to his next chapter elsewhere remains to be seen.
