AJ Styles has responded to fans who claimed WWE essentially bribed him to stay away from AEW — and his reply was as sharp and direct as his ring work used to be. After reports emerged that AEW had been prepared to make a strong offer to Styles before his retirement and WWE Hall of Fame induction, a fan on social media told Styles to enjoy his “bribery.” Styles fired back without hesitation.
“If bribing me leads to getting the job that I want, that’s great,” Styles replied. Styles retired from in-ring competition after losing to Gunther at the 2026 Royal Rumble and has since transitioned into a talent scouting role within WWE — a position that keeps him close to the business he loves without the physical grind of competing. The bribery framing refers to the combination of the Hall of Fame induction and the long-term backstage role fans suggested were used to keep him from signing with Tony Khan’s promotion. Styles is clearly unbothered by the narrative and right where he wants to be.
