What Was WWE Planning For Stephanie Vaquer Before Injury

Stephanie Vaquer’s shoulder injury cost WWE more than just a few weeks of television — it also erased a major match that had been actively discussed for Backlash on May 9 in Tampa. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE had been in internal discussions about booking Vaquer against Liv Morgan at Backlash, though the match was never officially announced before her injury forced the company to abandon the plan entirely.

Vaquer was written off WWE programming through a backstage attack angle on the April 27 Raw — with Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez assaulting her while Liv Morgan watched — but the injury behind the angle was confirmed as legitimate. Vaquer is dealing with a second-degree AC joint sprain with no firm return date currently in place. SummerSlam has been mentioned internally as a possible target, but nothing is confirmed.

Vaquer vs. Morgan Had Real Momentum After WrestleMania 42 Before the Injury Derailed Plans

The rivalry between Vaquer and Morgan had built genuine momentum coming out of WrestleMania 42, where Morgan defeated Vaquer for the Women’s World Championship in a match Bodyslam reported was kept shorter than planned due to both women dealing with physical issues. A Backlash rematch in Tampa would have been a natural next chapter — instead WWE has been forced to pivot the card in a different direction while Vaquer recovers.
