John Cena may be making another WWE appearance sooner than expected. Benchmark International Arena — which will host WWE Backlash on May 9 in Tampa, Florida — has publicly advertised Cena for the show on its website, posting “JOHN CENA RETURNS TO TAMPA AT BACKLASH!” WWE has not confirmed Cena’s involvement at this stage.
The arena advertisement aligns with comments Cena himself made on social media shortly after WrestleMania 42, where he teased something special without explicitly confirming an appearance. “Man if only it were 2023 again!! I might have different business at WWE Backlash. Alas, the years pass. I am still gonna try to do something epic in Tampa for 5/9. I promised Club WWE something special — stay tuned,” Cena wrote, referencing WWE‘s new fan club experience.
The current announced card for WWE Backlash on May 9 from Benchmark International Arena in Tampa features Roman Reigns defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Jacob Fatu, Trick Williams defending the United States Championship against Sami Zayn, IYO SKY vs. Asuka, Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker, and The Miz and Kit Wilson vs. Danhausen and a tag team partner yet to be determined.
