A joint statement between WWE and the New Day formally announcing Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods’ departures was planned but never issued, according to Fightful Select. The only official acknowledgment from the company has been Kingston and Woods being moved to the alumni section on WWE.com. Both men released individual statements following the news becoming public, but no formal joint communication from WWE ever arrived. The reason the planned announcement was never made remains unknown.
Despite the absence of a public statement, WWE did privately acknowledge Kingston and Woods’ contributions to the organization in glowing terms. Kingston spent 20 years with the company before his departure, while Woods had been with WWE for 16 years.
Both Kingston and Woods are subject to 90-day non-compete clauses before they can appear elsewhere. AEW has been reported as interested in signing the duo, with multiple AEW performers internally pushing for the promotion to bring them in when they become available. Their exits came after WWE and TKO asked them to restructure their contracts as part of a wider payroll reduction exercise — a proposal both men rejected before requesting their releases.
