John Cena has escalated his Backlash tease significantly — posting a video from outside Benchmark International Arena in Tampa on Thursday promising that his announcement will affect every aspect of WWE from fans to superstars, from champions to rookies. The language is the strongest yet from Cena, who has been building toward the announcement since first teasing “something epic” on April 23.
“WWE Universe, hey, John Cena here, standing in Thunder Alley, outside of Benchmark International Arena in Tampa Bay. In just a few days, I have a major announcement inside this building that is gonna shock the very foundation of WWE, from its fans to its superstars, from its champions down to its rookies. I’m so grateful that Tampa is allowing me a place to make this announcement. Thank you, WWE. See you live on ESPN in the States and Netflix around the world, but don’t miss Backlash. WrestleVotes Reports Cena’s Backlash Announcement Is Expected to Be Tied to the Club WWE Launch
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported Thursday night that the expectation internally is that Cena’s announcement is “tied to Club WWE and its upcoming launch” and that Cena being the face of it “is a huge boost” for the initiative. Club WWE is WWE‘s fan membership program that has been in development as a premium fan experience offering. If Cena is set to be the public face of its launch, Saturday’s announcement in Tampa would represent one of the more significant off-screen business developments WWE has made in some time. WWE Backlash 2026 takes place Saturday, May 9 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, streaming live on the ESPN app in the US and Netflix internationally.
