What Is Being Said About Britt Baker?

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select has given his most candid assessment yet of Britt Baker’s AEW standing, saying the situation stands out mainly because of how little he has heard about her creatively — and calling it a giant waste of money.

Speaking on a Fightful Select Q&A, Sapp was asked whether Baker had ever been intended as the payoff to Willow Nightingale’s Comeback Killer storyline. He said he never heard of a definitive plan involving her, though her name had at least come up internally.

“I never heard of an end game or a specific return that was supposed to beat her, but now whenever she’s back, someone can kind of turn the tables on her. I had heard some other names mentioned. I heard Britt discussed. I don’t know, like, if it ever even made it to her or anything.”

He immediately cautioned against reading too much into that.

“Obviously it’s a name that gets brought up. Again, that’s not aggregatable. It’s just naturally anybody who’s off TV, their name gets brought up.”

Asked directly whether he still believed Baker may not be returning any time soon, Sapp pointed to the absence of information itself as the telling detail.

“Nothing really. It’s more the absence of just anything. I haven’t heard of any, like, substantial interaction. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.”

He then went further, questioning openly why AEW has made so little use of Baker over the past two and a half years.

“I haven’t heard of anything regarding her or that, or just much of anything, and I think that’s a bummer, man. Like, listen, she had a bad match with Mercedes, she did her spot with Serena and it just wasn’t — it didn’t come off well. But, like, to me, having someone like Britt Baker, who has been super over, wrestle five times in two and a half years is a giant waste of money.”

On the contract question, Sapp said Baker’s original five-year deal signed in 2021 would normally expire in fall 2026, but noted injury time could potentially extend it and that he believes AEW would pursue that extension if possible.

Baker last competed on AEW television on November 13, 2024. Earlier this year at AEW Revolution, a fan publicly asked why she hadn’t returned despite several other stars coming back throughout the show. Baker’s response was brief: “Not up to me.”
