Sol Ruca has defeated Becky Lynch to win the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship at WWE Clash in Italy, pulling off the upset in Turin in a match that saw Lynch’s own tactics backfire on her.
Lynch dominated the majority of the contest before Ruca mounted a comeback. Ruca connected with an outside moonsault from the top rope and followed with a dropkick before going for her finisher — Lynch avoided it and locked in an armbar. Ruca escaped. Lynch exchanged words with referee Jessika Carr throughout the match, continuing the tension between the two that has been building for weeks.
Ruca hit a facebuster off the top rope for a near fall. Lynch then pushed Carr into the ropes, sending Ruca crashing to the mat — but the plan backfired as Ruca recovered, hit an outside dive onto Lynch, and returned to the ring. Lynch attempted to use Ruca’s own Sol Snatcher finisher against her, but Ruca countered out and connected with a Rock Bottom for two. Ruca then hit the Sol Snatcher for the pinfall and the title.
The win is Ruca’s first championship in WWE. She has been on the main roster for less than a year after being called up from NXT.
