Could WWE be on the verge of introducing a brand new championship for its power couples? While nothing is official, two of the company’s biggest stars are already staking their claim to the gold. Speaking with GQ for a new YouTube video, real-life husband and wife Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch were asked about the possibility of the promotion introducing Mixed Tag Team Championships.
The duo, who have teamed together sporadically on television—most recently in a high-profile rivalry against CM Punk and AJ Lee—were supremely confident in their chances. “Oh, we’d never lose that title,” Lynch declared immediately. Rollins backed up his wife’s sentiment, doubling down on their dominance. “We would never lose it,” he agreed, before adding a controversial caveat regarding their past performances. “We’re undefeated actually in tag team matches that haven’t been rigged.”
The “rigged” comment from “The Visionary” is likely a tongue-in-cheek reference to their recent loss at WrestlePalooza, where AJ Lee forced Lynch to tap out. By discrediting that loss, Rollins is maintaining their character’s aura of invincibility. Currently, the concept of Mixed Tag Team Championships is a rarity in major professional wrestling. As of publish time, AAA in Mexico is the only major promotion to have a set of active Mixed Tag Team Championships. Interestingly, those titles are currently held by familiar faces to the American audience: Ethan Page and Chelsea Green.
If WWE were to adopt a similar division, the roster certainly has the depth for it. Beyond Rollins and Lynch, the company features several on-screen and real-life pairings such as Karrion Kross and Scarlett, or The Miz and Maryse. However, until Triple H decides to unveil new leather and gold, the self-proclaimed “undefeated” streak of Rollins and Lynch will remain a hypothetical dominance rather than a record-book reality.
