R-Truth has been a staple of WWE television for decades, entertaining millions with his ageless charisma and comedic timing. However, in a sobering update, the veteran has confirmed that his current contract will be his last. Appearing on the Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez podcast, Truth opened up about the twilight of his career and his transition into a mentor role for the locker room.
“I know this is my last contract,” Truth stated plainly. With the end of his in-ring career in sight, his focus has shifted to giving back to the business. He cited names like Carmelo Hayes, The Street Profits, and Je’Von Evans as talents he wants to help suit up “emotionally” for the grind of the industry. “It’s like I’m OG to them now, dog… I’m unc, dog. I’m the coolest unc they’re going to [have],” he joked. Truth emphasized the importance of leaving the place better than he found it, ensuring the next generation is ready to take the torch.
Truth also addressed fans who clamor for a return to his serious “Ron Killings” persona from NWA-TNA. While he appreciates the sentiment, he believes his comedy connects on a deeper level. “He made them not have to think about it… If you don’t laugh, you will cry,” Truth explained, noting that making people feel joy is the ultimate connection. Speaking of joy, he revealed that his famous spot of bringing a ladder into the Royal Rumble was actually a fan’s idea that he pitched to creative.
Looking ahead to his eventual induction into the Hall of Fame, Truth named the three men he would want to induct him if Road Dogg wasn’t available. “Miz, Xavier Woods, or Kofi [Kingston]… Definitely Miz, man. Those three.” With a career spanning eras and genres, Truth’s legacy as one of the most versatile performers in history is already secured.
