Ric Flair was watching WrestleMania 42 Night One’s main event closely — and the Nature Boy did not hold back in his assessment of what he witnessed. Following Cody Rhodes’ title retention victory over Randy Orton in a chaotic and emotionally charged championship match, Flair took to social media with one of the more glowing endorsements the bout has received.
“One of the greatest matches I’ve seen in the last few years. Congrats to Cody Rhodes but there is no winner or loser. Randy Orton, you were spectacular. You both represent so well at the highest level. I have so much respect for you both,” Flair wrote. The framing of the result as having no true loser reflects the nature of what both men delivered — a match that Orton made extraordinary despite reportedly working through physical issues, and that Rhodes survived despite being busted open and subsequently punted in the head by Orton in the post-match. For Flair, whose daughter Charlotte competed in the Women’s Tag title match on the same night, it was a night to remember on multiple levels.
