Fightful Select has provided the most comprehensive account yet of what drove WWE‘s post-WrestleMania 42 releases — and the picture that emerges involves multiple factors converging simultaneously rather than a single top-down directive. While speculation had pointed toward TKO making the calls, Fightful clarified that WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H, WWE President Nick Khan, and WWE talent relations were the primary decision-makers behind the specific names cut.
Sources within WWE told Fightful that the majority of the releases were made to “make way for new talent” — a straightforward roster management rationale that aligns with the significant wave of NXT call-ups that accompanied and followed WrestleMania 42 weekend. The impending reduction of SmackDown from three hours back to two hours was also cited as a contributing factor, with Bodyslam reporting the switch will take place within the next few weeks. NXT releases were carried out separately in anticipation of new signings at the WWE Performance Center being announced soon.
The main roster releases include the entire Wyatt Sicks faction, Alba Fyre, Zoey Stark, Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Apollo Crews, The Motor City Machine Guns, Kairi Sane, and Santos Escobar. The NXT releases are Dante Chen, Tyson Dupont, Tyriek Igwe, Andre Chase, Chris Island, Tyra Mae Steele, Sirena Linton, Trill London, Malik Blade, Luca Crusifino, and Carlee Bright — bringing the total number of released performers to 25 across both brands.
