Don’t Believe This Rumor About Kairi Sane

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson has put a firm stop to the wave of online speculation suggesting that fan pressure had caused WWE to reverse Kairi Sane’s release. Johnson addressed subscriber questions directly, confirming that neither a reinstatement nor a surprise appearance on Monday’s Raw in Laredo, Texas was taking place.

“PWInsider.com has been asked by a number of readers about claims the Kairi Sane WWE release had been rescinded or whether she could appear on tonight’s Raw. Neither of those claims are correct,” Johnson wrote. The clarification is a significant dampener on a fan campaign that had been generating genuine momentum — the hashtag WeWantKairi has been consistently trending on social media since the news of Sane’s release broke on April 24, drawing widespread support from fans and fellow performers alike. However, Johnson also noted a practical barrier to any short-term reinstatement regardless of WWE‘s internal deliberations — Sane has already returned to Japan, making an immediate reappearance essentially impossible.

Sane was among more than two dozen performers released in WWE‘s post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts, a group that also included Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Nikki Cross, and the entire Wyatt Sicks faction. Her release stood out as one of the more surprising given her active role in the ongoing rivalry between IYO SKY and Asuka — a storyline that Fightful Select reported caused a “ton of shock” internally precisely because it had no real payoff before Sane was let go.

There Is Precedent for WWE Reversing a Release Due to Fan Backlash but Kairi Sane’s Situation Faces Practical Hurdles

Whether Sane’s story follows the same path as R-Truth — who was informed his contract would not be renewed last summer before being brought back just one week later on a new deal following substantial fan backlash, and is now one-half of the WWE Tag Team Championships alongside Damian Priest — remains an open question. The scale of the fan response to Sane’s release is comparable to the reaction that prompted Truth’s reinstatement, but the immediate logistical reality of Sane having already returned to Japan makes any equivalent turnaround considerably more complicated in the short term. For now, her release stands.
