The perception of talent in professional wrestling can often be a self-fulfilling prophecy. On the second season of WWE: Unreal, backstage producer Michael Hayes was shown discussing Chelsea Green, noting that she is not viewed as being on the level of the division’s top stars. In a new interview with K&C Masterpiece, former WWE Champion Big E offered his perspective on the challenges of overcoming such labels.
“Yeah, man, it’s hard to hear when people think you’re just a mid-carder or you’re just an opening act, and that’s about all you will be,” Big E said. He highlighted the political nature of the industry, where “a lot of people in a room… make a lot of decisions about the rest of your career.”
Drawing from his own experience with The New Day, Big E emphasized the importance of fighting against those perceptions. “We thought our faction would be a great opportunity for us to elevate our careers, and it did in immeasurable ways.” He offered encouragement to talent like Green who are currently grinding to prove their worth, stating, “You have to be okay with that. But for us, we were always fighting for more.”
