Big E has officially closed the door on his in-ring career. The former WWE Champion, who has been sidelined since suffering a broken neck on SmackDown in March 2022, confirmed his retirement during an appearance on Compas on the Beat at Super Bowl Radio Row. While he has remained active as an analyst on WWE pre-shows, this marks his most definitive statement yet regarding his wrestling future.
“I’m content,” Big E said when asked about a potential return. “You know, in wrestling they always say ‘never say never.’ But right now I’m retired, and that for me is it. So I’m focused on other things right now.”
He also took to social media to thank fans and reflect on the physical toll of the industry. “I entered the pro wrestling industry at age 23 with an injury history that included a Torn Left ACL, Torn Right ACL, Torn Left Pec, and a Broken Right Patella. At 39, I’m well aware, that I will one day have to pay the piper,” he wrote. Despite the injuries, Big E expressed gratitude that he is currently pain-free. “I don’t battle daily pain. I’m able to function normally and healthfully… It was an immeasurable gift to get to perform for you all.”
