Cody Rhodes has been the consummate hero since returning to WWE, but he admits that the role comes with immense pressure. On his podcast, What Do You Wanna Talk About?, Rhodes discussed the difficulties of maintaining a virtuous “white-meat babyface” character in modern entertainment. “I feel right now I like the challenge of being a babyface because it seems almost impossible some nights. It’s easier to be cooler,” Rhodes confessed.
He compared his situation to that of Logan Paul, noting that heels have more freedom to fail or antagonize the crowd without consequences. “I think if we ever transition and the heel comes back out, that might be something I need in my life and don’t realize it,” Rhodes mused, hinting at a potential future character shift. However, he acknowledged that the ticket-buying audience of families creates a necessary space for his current persona.
Rhodes recently overcame significant odds on SmackDown to qualify for the Elimination Chamber match, despite interference from WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. As he prepares to step inside the structure in Chicago, Rhodes will need every bit of that babyface fire to survive a field that includes Randy Orton and LA Knight.
