CM Punk Discusses Special Chicago Entrance

The reigning World Heavyweight Champion recently enjoyed an unforgettable night in his hometown. CM Punk discussed the deep personal significance of his special ring entrance at the United Center. He shared his thoughts during the official WWE Elimination Chamber post-show broadcast.

Before his standard theme music played and he walked through the curtain, the production team orchestrated a special presentation. He was shown pacing backstage as the instrumental track “Sirius” by The Alan Parsons Project played throughout the arena. The live crowd immediately recognized the iconic tune.

The song was famously used for the Chicago Bulls’ starting lineup introductions during the legendary Michael Jordan era. The public address announcer also gave Punk a classic Bulls-style introduction to set the mood. After the dramatic buildup, his recognizable “Cult of Personality” theme finally hit the speakers.

Punk stepped out to a massive ovation before his scheduled championship match against Finn Balor. He reflected on the incredible atmosphere and the historical ties during the press conference.

“That song, Alan Parsons Project, obviously has a connection with the United Center being the intro for the Bulls dynasty. There’s a statue of a man named Michael Jordan right over there at the vestibule. It was also Ricky Steamboat’s entrance for a lot of his time here in WWE,” Punk explained.

The champion expressed how deeply the moment resonated with him on an emotional level. He credited the passionate local audience for making the entrance truly spectacular.

“It’s a magical song ladies and gentleman and I got goosebumps just thinking about it and talking about it. But the best part about that entrance are these people behind me,” Punk said while motioning at the live crowd attending the post-show. “And when I say the people behind me, I mean the entirety of the city of Chicago, because they are always behind me.”

The veteran superstar has always worn his hometown pride on his sleeve. When asked about his enduring association with the city, he provided a very thoughtful response.

“I am one of them so it is always humbling to know that I come from this city, and I have watched such megastars and mega athletes like Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Jeremy Roenick, Ed Belfour, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Seabrook, Duncan Keith, the ’85 Bears. If you put me on a list with any of them, no matter how low on that list, I’m still on the list. Chicago, man, Chicago is the city that works,” Punk stated proudly.

The hometown advantage certainly helped him during his grueling title defense against The Judgment Day leader. Punk managed to defeat Balor to successfully retain his World Heavyweight Championship. He can now officially look forward to the biggest show of the year.

His next major challenge is already set in stone for the spring season. He is officially scheduled to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 42. Reigns earned the championship opportunity by outlasting 29 other competitors to win the 2026 Royal Rumble match earlier this year.
