This Friday’s WWE SmackDown from PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh is shaping up to be one of the most significant episodes on the road to WrestleMania 42. Cody Rhodes makes his long-awaited return following Randy Orton’s brutal attack on March 13, and Orton himself will also be on the show — with WWE teasing that the Legend Killer is looking for a new target after his assaults on both Rhodes and Matt Cardona.
The show also features Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss taking on The Bella Twins in tag team action, and Nick Aldis will address the condition of Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre following their violent brawl that saw both men crash off a guardrail outside the arena. The Women’s United States Championship match between Giulia and Tiffany Stratton that was previously advertised has been changed — WWE.com is now listing the bout as a non-title showdown.
According to Self Made Pro, the Fatu vs. McIntyre rivalry is expected to be formalized for WrestleMania 42 — and not in a standard match. Sources indicate the two could settle their rivalry inside Hell in a Cell at the Show of Shows. Their SmackDown brawl, which included McIntyre smashing Fatu’s windshield and both men crashing off a guardrail, suggested from the start that this feud needed a brutal stipulation to reach its conclusion. Friday’s SmackDown figures to be the next major escalation in that direction.
