Nikki Bella has broken her silence on the ankle injury that has put her WrestleMania 42 status in doubt, opening up on Angie Martinez’s YouTube channel about the extent of the damage and the uncertainty still surrounding her availability for Las Vegas.
“I’ve been super bummed out about it. As of now, it’s a sprained ankle. We don’t know if it’s a high sprain or something else, so I got an MRI I’m waiting for the results,” Bella said. She also described how the injury unfolded during the March 27 SmackDown tag match against Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. “It happened right in the beginning of the match, and I finished the match. I can’t believe I finished the match, and I stressed out my poor sister.”
Brie Bella also shared her perspective on what it was like in the ring when the injury happened, describing a chaotic and emotional experience of trying to continue the match under the circumstances. “She tags me, and as I’m about to come in, she goes, ‘Oh, I think I broke my ankle,’ and we’re on live television. I was like, ‘Huh?’ I knew this was starting the story to WrestleMania. So in my head, I knew there were girls in the back waiting to run in. I didn’t wanna let anyone down. But I still had like 10-12 minutes to go, and I was like, ‘My goodness.'” Nikki remains advertised for the Fatal Four-Way Women’s Tag Team Championship match at WrestleMania 42, though her participation ultimately depends on MRI results and medical clearance.
