Charlotte Flair has weighed in on the Pat McAfee and Randy Orton storyline — sort of. Speaking with Jeremy Jacobowitz, Flair was asked about her thoughts on McAfee’s involvement in the Cody Rhodes versus Orton championship rivalry, and her response was both diplomatically measured and genuinely entertaining, delivering one of the more quotable lines of WrestleMania week in the process.
“I’m so into what I’m doing right now. I’m not in that storyline, so it’s not my place to be like whether I like it or I don’t like it. I’m just a fan of Cody and Randy because I’m a legacy kid and they’re legacy kids. You know, the three favorite nepo babies,” Flair said, laughing as she landed the line.
The self-awareness on display is vintage Charlotte Flair. All three — Flair as the daughter of Ric Flair, Rhodes as the son of Dusty Rhodes, and Orton as the son of Bob Orton Jr. — have spent their careers navigating the dual reality of being born into wrestling royalty while also building legacies entirely their own. The “nepo baby” label is one that has followed all three throughout their careers to varying degrees, and Flair’s willingness to lean into it with humor rather than defensiveness reflects exactly the kind of self-assurance that defines her current chapter.
Her diplomatic non-answer on the McAfee question is also telling in its own right. Flair is clearly aware of the mixed internal and fan reaction to McAfee’s insertion into the WrestleMania 42 main event picture — but as someone in the thick of her own championship story alongside Alexa Bliss, she has no interest in adding her voice to a debate that does not involve her directly.
Flair and Bliss challenge The Irresistible Forces for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships in the Fatal Four-Way at WrestleMania 42 on April 18 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas — a match that also includes The Bella Twins and Bayley and Lyra Valkyria. Flair has spoken extensively in the lead-up to the show about how much the CharLexa partnership has meant to her, how the tag division has reached a level of depth she has never seen before, and how she is approaching WrestleMania 42 with more hunger than anxiety. The nepo baby quip aside, she is clearly locked in on delivering a WrestleMania moment worthy of the legacy she is both inheriting and actively building.
