Stephanie Vaquer Explains Why Her WWE Theme Changed From “Bury Me” to “La Primera”

Stephanie Vaquer has addressed the confusion surrounding her WWE theme song change in February, acknowledging fan attachment to her previous music while explaining that circumstances outside her control made the switch necessary. Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Vaquer kept her explanation brief but genuine.

“I like it. I love my old song. But, you know, many issues, so we need a new song. I just hope people can understand that,” she said.

The old theme — “Bury Me” by Chris Egert — had developed a strong connection with fans during Vaquer’s rise to the WWE Women’s World Championship, making its replacement jarring for many when the new Def Rebel track “La Primera” debuted in February. Egert himself addressed the situation on social media with remarkable warmth and generosity.

Songwriter Chris Egert Says “Bury Me” Will Always Belong to Stephanie Vaquer in His Mind

“One of the most amazing highlights for me from 2025 was Stephanie Vaquer walking out to music I wrote, ‘Bury Me.’ I’m an artist, not a stock music composer. I put a lot of soul and fire into that one and it fits her vibe so well. It was awesome watching La Primera’s ascent to becoming a legend, and I am eternally grateful to Stephanie Vaquer for fighting for my music — it was so validating and life changing for me as an artist. In my mind, ‘Bury Me’ will always belong to you,” Egert wrote. His note that Vaquer “fought for” his music suggests she actively advocated for the original theme before the unspecified issues made a change unavoidable. Vaquer defends the Women’s World Championship against Liv Morgan at WrestleMania 42 Night One on April 18 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
