WWE WrestleMania In Ireland Called Long-Term Project By Sources

The push to bring WrestleMania to Ireland is being described as a long-term project by those close to the initiative, according to Corey Brennan of Fightful Select. Sources within the Irish wrestling scene told Fightful that the concept is achievable if the Irish government views the country as a global sporting hub and gets behind the bid. Concerns about Croke Park residents — historically an obstacle for major events at the 82,000-capacity Dublin stadium — are being actively dismissed, with sources pointing to WWE-scale events succeeding elsewhere as proof of concept.

WrestleMania In Ireland: Financial And Practical Challenges

Two major challenges have been identified for the Irish WrestleMania bid. The first is financial: Ireland would need to match or exceed the six-million-dollar bid Las Vegas submitted to host WrestleMania, a figure described as a major roadblock by sources in the Irish wrestling scene. The second is practical: Croke Park does not have a roof, making Irish weather a genuine logistical concern for an outdoor premium live event of WrestleMania’s scale. Those involved point to the NFL’s successful games at Croke Park and the upcoming Manchester United vs. Leeds match in August as evidence that large international events can work at the venue.

Economic Impact Could Strengthen WrestleMania Ireland Pitch

The economic argument is the strongest piece of the bid. Sources estimated to Fightful that hosting WrestleMania would inject close to 300 million euros into the Irish economy, a figure that could prove persuasive to government officials when the formal pitch is made. Kilkenny Councillor Maurice Shortall previously told the Irish Mirror that Ireland is well placed to make a credible and competitive bid and indicated plans to take the proposal directly to the Irish government. WrestleMania 43 is currently planned for Saudi Arabia, with Nashville also reportedly in discussions for a future year, meaning any Irish bid would target a later edition of the event.
