The New Day are reportedly the subject of a strong internal push from All Elite Wrestling stars who want Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods to sign with the company. According to a new Fightful Select report, Sean Ross Sapp spoke with nearly a dozen sources within AEW and could not find a single person who dissented to the idea. The duo is described as “universally respected” inside AEW, and the report frames their eventual arrival as highly expected once their 90-day no-compete clause from WWE ends.
Kingston and Woods mutually parted ways with WWE following WrestleMania 42 after TKO and the company tried to restructure their existing contracts. Their departure became one of the biggest talent stories of the year given the duo’s status as two of the most respected and beloved figures in modern wrestling. According to Fightful, “a number of big names in AEW were making an internal push for the two to end up there,” and the unified response from sources is unusual given how often there’s at least some dissent in talent acquisition discussions.
AEW star Bobby Lashley has already opened up about the prospect of working with Kingston and Woods. “Man, I tell you what, I think the problem that we have right now is that the Hurt Syndicate is too strong. If we bring those guys on there, we’d be just unstoppable,” Lashley said. He went on to describe the duo as amazing talent and predicted that “anybody and everybody is going to throw in their money to try to pick those guys up.” If they choose AEW, Lashley said, the Hurt Syndicate would be interested in adding them. Until the no-compete clause expires, Kingston and Woods remain free agents on the open market, with multiple promotions expected to compete for their services.
