AEW President Tony Khan has said he is fully confident the proposed Paramount/Skydance acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery will benefit his company, expressing enthusiasm about the merger in an appearance on Bloomberg TV’s The Close in New York.
“I am very excited about Paramount acquiring WB and Paramount and WB coming together. This is going to be great for AEW,” Khan said, answering “100%” when asked if he believes Paramount will continue its relationship with AEW post-merger.
He pointed to the combined streaming power of HBO Max and Paramount Plus as a direct benefit for AEW.
“With the power of HBO Max and Paramount Plus together, it’s more buyers for our PPVs and more people watching the AEW shows. I think it will make TBS and TNT stronger cable channels with Paramount and David Ellison coming in.”
Khan reiterated his previously stated close relationship with Paramount head David Ellison through shared NFL business ties. AEW’s current domestic deal with WBD runs through 2027, with a one-year extension option held by WBD. The proposed merger is still working through the regulatory process.
