Cody Rhodes has pitched a WWE event on a decommissioned aircraft carrier, drawing on one of the most memorable promotional moments in wrestling history as his reference point.
Speaking to TMZ after Clash in Italy, Rhodes was asked what unusual venue WWE could run after UFC announced its White House event.
“I would like to do a decommissioned — what do we call them, where we put the planes on it. Luger did the slam on Yokozuna on the Intrepid. Basically, a decommissioned battleship. That’d be really cool. Unique locations are always fun because then you can play them in the game.”
In 1993, Lex Luger arrived via helicopter and bodyslammed Yokozuna on the deck of the USS Intrepid in New York Harbor — one of the most famous promotional spectacles in WWE history, launching Luger’s summer-long US Championship chase.
Rhodes retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther at Clash in Italy yesterday in Turin in a controversial finish that saw Gunther’s leg under the rope at the count of three.
