Charlotte Flair has offered the most articulate explanation yet of why her tag team partnership with Alexa Bliss has resonated so strongly with WWE audiences — and it comes down to a simple but powerful dynamic. Two self-sufficient, fully established characters choosing to work together rather than needing each other creates a different kind of chemistry than most tag teams can manufacture.
“I’ve been a solo act for so long and she is a standalone character herself, so Alexa Bliss doesn’t need Charlotte Flair and Charlotte Flair doesn’t need Alexa Bliss, but together it’s just money. So that’s been fun,” Flair said on Casuals With Katie Nolan.
The observation cuts to the heart of what makes CharLexa compelling. Both women arrived at the partnership with fully formed identities, lengthy title histories, and established fan relationships built entirely independent of each other. There was no creative need to pair them — which is precisely why it works. The audience can sense the authenticity of two equals choosing collaboration rather than being placed together out of necessity.
Flair also highlighted the role that mutual professional respect has played in making the partnership function smoothly on a personal level, distinguishing between genuine friendship and something she considers equally valuable — deep admiration built through years of watching each other work at the highest level.
“I also think on a personal level, knowing each other’s careers — not that we’ve been best friends for 10 years because we haven’t — but there was so much respect there for each other, and that helps when making the best thing possible,” Flair said.
The trust element proved to be the most significant theme in Flair’s explanation. Working alongside someone in a tag team environment requires a level of vulnerability that solo competition does not demand — and for someone of Flair’s stature and competitive nature, finding that comfort level is not something that comes easily or automatically.
“I don’t have a moment when I think, oh man, she’s going to do something to undercut me. You have to trust the person you’re sharing this with, and I trust her. It’s hard to have that in any industry where you’re competing and trying to win over the fans, your boss. But with her there’s always going to be competition — you always want to be the best — but it’s like we’re making magic together versus it being just solo. Like we’re both shining in whatever we’re doing together,” she said.
The partnership began with their SummerSlam 2025 Women’s Tag Team Championship victory and has continued to build momentum heading into WrestleMania 42, where CharLexa will compete in the Fatal Four-Way Women’s Tag Team Championship match against The Irresistible Forces — Nia Jax and Lash Legend — The Bella Twins, and Bayley and Lyra Valkyria on April 18 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Flair’s description of the team as two performers who shine brighter together than apart suggests CharLexa has genuine staying power beyond a single championship run — assuming the partnership survives WrestleMania weekend intact.
