Becky Lynch has directly addressed the online trend of wrestling fans labeling top performers “Hogan” when they believe someone is being pushed too hard or for too long — and she is taking the criticism in stride while pointing out that virtually every major star has been on the receiving end of the same treatment. Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Lynch put the “Becky Hogan” label in the context of a broader phenomenon that transcends any individual performer.
“I think that’s when you’re at the top of the card, it happens to everybody. Nobody is unscathed. It was Sami Hogan. It might still be Sami Hogan. It’s Cody Hogan, it’s Roman Hogan, Seth Hogan — we’re all Hogan, which — say what you will about the man — one of the biggest stars to ever exist. So yeah, I think it becomes this thing. People don’t understand how creative happens and if they see somebody that is in a preferable spot for a long period of time, they go, okay, that’s because that person is politicking and trying to hold everybody down. They don’t know what goes into it, and that’s fine. They’re entitled to have their opinions. I want you to have your opinions, go nuts with your opinions. But now I’m just gonna do what I do, and how you feel about me is how you’re gonna feel about me,” Lynch said.
Lynch has not held a world title since her 33-day Women’s World Championship reign in 2024. She returned at WrestleMania 41 following a break from WWE, turned heel on Lyra Valkyria, and has been predominantly focused on the Women’s Intercontinental Championship since last spring — a pursuit that culminates at WrestleMania 42 Night One on April 18 where she challenges AJ Lee for the title at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
